YAHUKIMO - One of the military units under the command of the Indonesian Armed Forces Operational Command HABEMA, the Task Forces of the Marines Infantry Battalion 6, is currently conducting mobile security at the border of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, especially in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province. This operation involves area security, with the primary goal of ensuring the safety and security of the region. On Friday, 6 September 2024, the Marines Task Forces conducted a patrol to secure the area by visiting and greeting residents in the Sokamu Village, Dekai District.
Emphasizing the Soldiers' role, the Commander of the Marines Task Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Rismanto Manurung, stressed the importance of the Task Forces’ attention to the basic necessities of the community around the Post. This message was not just words but an immediate call to action, a reassurance of the Marines' commitment to the community. Therefore, the Bravo Post, led by Second Lieutenant Alter, apparently answered by conducting Patrol and carrying out Social Services for residents they met along the Patrol route. While still prioritizing the security aspect, when passing by residents, the Soldiers invited them to communicate and were greeted happily by the Sokamu residents.
When entering the village, several residents expressed their economic difficulties. 2LT Alter, who led the Patrol, also led the Task force’s initiative to distribute free packages of basic necessities to the Sokamu residents. Receiving the free packages, the residents were immediately greeted happily. One resident, Mr. Matius Otimuka, said, "Thank you, Marines Commander. God bless you." This response from the community further underscores the positive impact of the Marines' efforts.
After receiving the activity report, the HABEMA Commanding General, Brigadier General Lucky Avianto, acknowledged the Marines Task Forces’ initiative to distribute free packages of basic necessities to the Sokamu residents. His words: 'The Marines Task Forces' initiative is a testament to TNI's commitment to helping the residents with economic difficulties, one of the community's basic needs, to support the acceleration of development in the Papua region.' This acknowledgment from the highest authority in HABEMA underscores the significant role of the Marines in community development, instilling a sense of progress and hope about their potential to positively shape the region's future. It makes the Task Forces and the community feel recognized and appreciated for their efforts.
